All Those Nasty Trees Gone

Pillar Point on Highway 112 used to be shaded by big, nasty, old trees.  As you can see, the local lumber company has opened up the other side of the road, so you don't have to look at all those horrible big-leaf maples, Douglas Fir and hemlock any more.

This is on the Scenic By-Way.  Merrill and Ring logging knows that "scenic" means teaching the iggernant citifolks what a Workin' Forres' looks like.  Tourism ain't got no money for the local economy, of course. The sooner all these in-the-way trees and fish are gone, the sooner the owners can sell to a developer and turn the place into someplace the citifolks can live.

I hadn't been on that road for about 4 months or so until last week and I was stunned at what I saw. I almost cried truth be told :-( --- I understand the working forest part but who ever made this decision had their head too far up their ass to see the forest for the trees.

I sense a touch...just a touch, mind you...of sarcasm here...

Why do people do this?

Yeah, yeah...I know...the almighty dollar...

It was done to wreck the tourism industry up here. On purpose. "Working Forest" my ass. This is nothing but pure politics, of the worse kind -- the rats pulling out the last of the resources as the system crashes.

I agree. There used to be a time of the "working forest" -- long gone once politics started to play in to it for sure (as if it was EVER not in play). For too short a time did they manage the forest well. Very, very short time. Like 10 years if we are lucky. And as to when the system crashes? Good luck to the government (uh, no, tis in jest) in keeping us out to save our families. I dare you...jerks. We have the resources all over the place. Just try after crashing the machine to keep us indentured. I dare ya. Yep...Good luck with that...*grumble*

Remember that any forestry, mining, or minerals company is out to Rape and Grab -- look at the Gulf Leak, and the miners' deaths recently. These resource industries grabbed these properties early in our history, and have been gouging our environment every since. Remember the only institution that can have any control on them -- some form of our own democracy. This is what happens when we just throw our government away and don't force it to protect our interests.

The problem is the government is as bad as the companies if not worse. When they get involved it's always full of over blown and expensive bureaucratic red tape. So they raise more taxes etc etc and the cycle goes on. What a nice and tangled web we have now no matter whose in charge at this point. It's so messy it's bound to have to reset. Just hope we don't all get squashed like bugs economically while it's happening.

It's because we've all backed away from government and refused to police it like we're supposed to. We're all playing Pap Finn -- expecting The Guv'ment to somehow do its job while we slop along ignoring it or letting special interests do as they please. Ignore our government -- we'll go away.

That is a fact! Well said...
